Sunday 5th April

Dear Parents / guardians,

Together we have completed two weeks of remote learning and what an experience it has been. First and foremost, I want to thank you for the incredible levels of support that you have shown in the midst of this unprecedented situation - one which has brought about so many changes and challenges. Feedback on levels of pupil engagement and activity has been very positive; this would not have been possible without you.

In general, it has been wonderful to see examples of the fantastic work going on at home and I will continue to recognise this by posting work on the class page. Keep sending examples of work to me - it gives me a sense of pride, pleasure and hope!

I know that for many households this first experience of remote learning may not have been straightforward as you adapt to the many changes that have come your way. I understand that every household may have approached the challenges placed upon them in different ways. For some, these challenges will have extended far beyond 'home schooling' or 'working from home'; many will be dealing with illness, concerns about family members, increased working hours and many other issues that only a month ago would never have entered your thoughts. For others, it will be about finding a balance between existing or new household responsibilities and school work. For everyone, it is about getting the balance right!

As time passes you may find that your children come under pressure and so I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that I will continue to offer as much support as possible for the duration of this crisis. Please let me know if your children are facing increasing levels of stress; whatever adjustments are needed will be made to accommodate their needs. It is essential that we look after our children's emotional and physical well-being too - and it is also important you look after your own health and wellbeing.

During the next two weeks I will not be sending work every day and you do not have to send an email each morning to register your child. However please find attached some resources for this period. It may help to have a little bit of routine and to also 'keep your child busy' during this period. These activities are optional and you may find them helpful.

I would like to assure you that we will keep every member of the school community in our thoughts and prayers. Take care and stay safe; continue to follow the Government guidelines and pray daily for all those frontline workers whose brave actions are beyond admiration.

Finally, in the words of Seamus Heaney, 'If we winter this one out, we can summer anywhere.' That summer will come.

Yours faithfully

Mr Doherty

Mr Doherty

Dear parents/guardians,

From Monday 23rd of March I will be uploading a Maths, English, either a Spelling, Grammar or Punctuation activity (SPaG) and a wider curriculum task daily. This can be accessed via the school website and will be sent by email: MrDoherty@christtheking.reading.sch.uk - you will be able to upload your child's work . I will be providing feedback on tasks where necessary during school hours. If you are unable to upload the work,  the children can do their work in the exercise book provided by the school. This can be collected from the office if your child was absent on Friday.

In the document entitled "Dear Parents" I have attached a suggested timetable for your child's home learning. Of course I do not expect these timings to be strictly adhered to; children may possibly have to share devices and therefore I understand that home learning will bring challenges in itself - it is just a guide.

Please remember to register every morning via email between 9:00am and 9:30am.

Thank you for your co-operation and support at this difficult time. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via my school email.

Kind Regards

Mr Doherty
