Catholic Social Teaching (CST)

Catholic Social Teaching is part of the Church's teaching on morality and is rooted in scripture.  CST gives us guidance on how we should live out our faith in today's world.  Here at CTK we try to embed these principles throughout our curriculum and look for ways in which we can help others.  The seven principles of CST are as follows.  Click on each heading for our understanding of what we should do.

Human Dignity

We are all made in the image and likeness of God. Each one of us should be treated with love and respect.

Solidarity

Solidarity reminds us that we live together side by side and should work together to help those who are in need especially those in poverty.

The Common Good

The Common Good reminds us that the fruits of the earth belong to everyone.  We should therefore work together to take care to ensure that everyone has what they need to survive.

Option for the poor 

This principle reminds us that God loves the poor, most vulnerable and humble amongst us.  We should therefore 

Peace 

'Peace be with you...' Peace is the foundation of our faith.  We are reminded to work together to seek peace for all.

Creation & Environment 

We believe that God created heaven and earth.  In 2015, Pope Francis, through Laudato Si encouraged us to 'care for our common home.'

Dignity of work & Participation

This principle reminds us that the dignity of people should come before profit. People are therefore free to join a union, uphold workers' rights, earn a fair wage and spend time with their families.
